Keep training awareness _Lemon Project

Picture3

I’ve got another team. There are three of us and one of is New MACE. #MACE14 always welcomes to new member and experience! We firstly put, thought and imagined a lot of thing about lemons with any limitation or without any information. Squeezing them, Drinking lemon water, drawing them, cutting them, acting like them? and so on.

Next step, we knew that we had to promote and spread out #knowyourlemons. That is the campaign of breast cancer. what Breast Cancer is connected with Lemon? but let me think.. Lou Gehrig’s disease isn’t also relevant to Ice bucket? I didn’t find any common things between them but now the most people including me can easily see that lemon and ice are just one form, symbol and shape. So finally, now lemons remind me breast cancer. We came up with just a couple of idea after then, our team made a decision to spread words and images by using social media. Uploading lemons image on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and so on we tagged with many name of our friends and they will post on pictures with lemons and tagged to others. We need data and details like figures, how many people? what country? Checked for our pages and counted numbers.

To be fair, we didn’t get much recognition of people even though it’s our friends. Nevertheless, I realized the requirement of training awareness. If an idea wasn’t attractive, it will be very tough to succeed a campaign or donation. Creating creative ways is very essential but I think that making people keeping training awareness is also very crucial point. Consistently, interacting with people and modifying design through getting feedback are harder than we expected. To be fair, our project got a fail but  I got this important point which training awareness something could be ability ,not abandon a purpose and keep going it. It’s like looking care children or gardening.

Warming up – For people who are trying to start it!

A lot of peers can see easily that MACE#14 is definitely international students when the Lean Start-Up Experience was started with Dan Lockton. We are asked to identify and resolve a problem for new students in Kingston and my first team-work in master has already started earlier than I expected.

Our team would mean encountering between European students and Asia students because it consists of Thea from Germany, Eleven from China, Elmira from Russia, Renzo from Italy and yes, it’s me who Jen from South Korea. First experience usually could let people excited or terrified but bias don’t exist yet or if there are a lot of bias in our minds we could get an opportunity to break them. Therefore, we clearly chose focusing on social problem that international students face when they arrive and settle down in Kingston.

To do some research on the topic we went to the Fresher’s Fair on Penrhyn Road Campus to interview new students on their experience. We talked to several people and soon found out that not only the language is a problem when it comes to non-UK students socializing with UK students. There are other factors such as social behaviour, body language, customs, traditions and so on so we finally framed our problem that as such “Lack of understanding of cultural differences” and “The Visual Guide to Kingston” is the solution.

The Visual Guide to Kingston is a magazine from KU students for KU students and a new edition of “The Visual Guide to Kingston” is released every year so it never get’s out of date. From time to time, visualization is more massive impacts on people, through this magazine, text, contents, images, will be arranged and laid out so new students can find information about Kingston University and the town Kingston such as cool places to go out, where to find the best burger in town, where the best dance party is, useful tips about the university and so on. But most importantly, they will find cultural tips in “The Visual Guide to Kingston” that, non-UK students tell people about English customs, idioms, traditions and so on but also, if UK student explain them some traditions, customs and features of international students. So, why is “The Visual Guide to Kingston” called “ the reason is that we decided to use as less written language as possible in our magazine and emphasize on strong images that everyone understands. Some people might not be familiar with certain English expressions, “The Visual Guide to Kingston” explains them to you in an easy way.

By performing this project, I looked for 17 different countries flags from MACE#14 nations and I imagined each person, geography, custom, language and so on. How can Kingston’s students help each other? What is better life to them? Therefore, I personally think that focusing on different nationalities could interrupt new ideas. I just would like to emphasize diverse people and it’s each person Knowing you widely and deeply is better than categorizing and separating. The result of starting wasn’t bad so I want to take one more step in the near future.
